Kronentor, or the Crown Gate, is the ornate northern entrance to Dresden’s Zwinger Palace, a gleaming example of Baroque architecture. Built around 1711–1716 under Elector Augustus II and realized by architect Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann with sculptor Balthasar Permoser, it is crowned by a gilded sculpture that gives the gate its name and character. Visitors pass through its richly decorated portal into a courtyard flanked by pavilions and museums, making Kronentor one of the city’s most photographed highlights.
