Great Mosque of Algeria
The Great Mosque of Algiers, or Djamaa el Djazaïr, is Africa’s largest mosque and a striking landmark on the city’s seafront. Completed in 2019, its gleaming white façade and immense 265-meter minaret dominate the skyline and offer a counterpoint to Algiers’ historic medina. Inside, visitors can admire an expansive prayer hall and quiet courtyards, while the surrounding complex houses a library, museum, and cultural spaces. Travelers come for the architectural drama, sweeping sea views, and the sense of modern Algeria blending tradition with bold contemporary design.
