About Astana

Astana looks like a magical oasis in the middle of the vast Kazakh steppes. The city was built practically from scratch a couple of decades ago after the decision was made to move the capital here from Almaty. Many cultural objects of the renewed Astana were built thanks to President Nazarbayev.

The unusual futuristic forms of Khan Shatyr and Astana Circus, the sky-piercing minarets of the Khazret Sultan mosque and the grandiose scale of Astana-Bayterek can impress any traveller. Today, the city continues to actively develop. New interesting places are constantly appearing here. Astana is a hospitable and pleasant city, where guests are always welcome. The monument was erected on the central square in 2002 on the initiative of President Nazarbayev. Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center

Monument Kazakh Eli

Ak Orda Presidential Palace

Hazrat Sultan Mosque

Nur Astana Mosque

This temple owned all the laurels before the construction of the Khazret Sultan Mosque. “Nur Astana” was erected in 2005 in a modern oriental style with the financial support of the Qatari government. Granite, glass and concrete were used in the construction of the building. The minarets of the mosque are 63 metres high (the period of Muhammad’s earthly life), the main dome is 40 metres high (the age when Allah appeared to Muhammad).

The Museum of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Russian drama theatre named after M.Gorky

Capital Circus
