Welcome! You’re in for a fantastic treat today! Let me tell you about one of the oldest Orthodox monasteries in Ruthenia, the Kiev Pechersk Lavra! Founded in 1051 by a monk named Anthony, it’s a place of historical and religious significance. The stunning high Lavra bell tower stands at 96.5 meters, making it the highest point in Kiev. The Lavra boasts several museums, each with something unique and fascinating to offer. Inside, you’ll be amazed by the beautiful decorations and ornate details that adorn every corner of the monastery, while the exterior is no less impressive. It is a part of the mountain system of the Eastern Carpathians. The predominant altitudes of the Carpathians are 800 to 1200 meters. The highest mountain is Hoverla, with a height of 2061 meters. Snow covers the mountains for five months of the year. The slopes of the Carpathians are covered with pine trees, rocks, and rivers, forming a magical landscape. The Ukrainian Carpathians are shrouded in legends and have preserved their mysterious appearance. There is a very rich flora and fauna, as well as many mineral springs.
This magnificent arboretum is situated in the northern region of Uman. Its size spans 180 hectares, and it draws around half a million tourists yearly. Stanislav Pototsky founded the park in 1796, dedicating it to his spouse. Over 2000 trees and bushes thrive here, complemented by the lakes, grottoes, waterfalls, and statues within the grounds. It is an enchanting and breathtaking man-made wonder for those who enjoy nature and its beauty. In fact, a small planet has been named after the park to commemorate its serene essence.

A place of Ukrainian romance, a natural phenomenon. It is located on a railway track in Rivne region. Here trees and bushes are overgrown in the form of an arch and stretch along the railway track for 4 kilometres. Every year couples in love come here. They pass through the tunnel, make wishes and plant flowers. Three times a day, a train passes through here. A Japanese director made a film about it called “Klevan: Tunnel of Love”.
It is an island on the Dnieper that has become a national reserve, absorbing the history of the Ukrainian people. Its area is 3,000 hectares. The island is very picturesque, surrounded by the river, rocks, dotted with flowers, and covered with forests. Khortytsya is directly connected to the Ukrainian Cossacks. There are many defensive, wooden, fortified buildings on the island which make it one of the best places to become acquainted with the history of Ukraine.
The park was established in 1874 and is located in Kiev, opposite the Supreme Council of Ukraine. The park covers an area of 8.9 hectares and was designed in the English style with further additions. Over 80 species of trees grow within the park, which also features a lover’s bridge, fountains, monuments, and a viewing platform. The park provides stunning views of the Dnieper River and houses the monument to blossoming chestnuts – a symbol of the city of Kiev.
A castle in the Transcarpathian region has its first mention dating back to the 11th century. It is situated on a 68-meter-high mountain, occupying an area of 13,930 m², and divided into three parts: the Lower Castle, the Middle Castle, and the Upper Castle. The castle boasts of several museums, and the surrounding areas offer stunning sceneries. Over time, the castle has changed hands severally, and Ukrainians fought for their independence within its walls.
It is the main street not only of the capital, but also of Ukraine as a whole. Its length is 1.3 kilometers. It began to be built in the 19th century. The width of the street is 75 meters. On both sides of the street, there are three to four-storey beautiful buildings including banks, cafes, restaurants, and museums. During the Second World War, Khreshchatyk was completely destroyed and needed to be rebuilt. On weekends and public holidays, Khreshchatyk becomes pedestrianized.
It is a tract of land in the north-west of Kiev with a tragic and cruel history. It was in this place that 100-150 thousand people, mostly Jews, were shot during the Second World War. Only 29 people were saved from execution. People were ordered to come to the place of execution with documents, valuables and clothes. They were then taken away and killed. Monuments were erected to the victims.
It is an Orthodox monastery located in the Ternopil region and is the second-largest monastery in Ukraine, after the Kievo-Pechersk Lavra. It was founded approximately in the 13th century. Within the territory of the Lavra lies the Assumption and Trinity cathedrals, both known for their beauty, alongside cells, a belfry, and the Bishop’s House. Every year, there is an increase in the number of tourists visiting the site. It is believed that this monastery is a place where one can solve difficult problems and restore vitality.
It is a medieval castle founded at the end of the 14th century in the city of Kamianets-Podilskyi. It is a part of the reserve with an area of 121 hectares, and its main part is the Old Town. It is located on an island formed by the Smotrych Canyon and boasts of several structures such as the Russian Gate, the Castle Bridge, defence towers, and barracks. The pearl of the site is the Old Fortress. In total, there are 135 buildings in the city, making it the third most visited city in Ukraine.
It is a museum complex located in the Zhytomyr region, which was created quite recently on the foundation of a century-old mill. The museum complex boasts having the only museum of homemade icons in Europe. Inside the castle, visitors can discover an ancient technology paper production line, a concert hall, and a ritual hall. It offers a wonderful representation of Ukrainian life through many interesting exhibits and performances.
One of the largest canyons in Europe is formed by the Dniester River, situated on the border of four regions. It has a length of 250 kilometers, and the nature on its banks is incredibly rich, providing excellent views of the canyon. There are more than 100 different sights on the canyon’s territory, and it is regarded as one of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine. The easiest way to admire the canyon is by visiting the Chernivtsi region.
This castle is one of the oldest, largest, and best-preserved castles in Ukraine. It was founded in the XIV century and is the oldest structure in Lutsk. Three three-tiered towers surround it, and it has several arches. There are two pulpits on the castle’s territory. The complex includes five museums and is also the burial place of Prince Lubart and other Volyn princes. Festivals are held annually at the castle, making it a popular destination for visitors.
It is a small sandstone massif located in the Zaporizhzhya region. Its height is 12 meters and it is made of stone blocks. Its dimensions are 240 by 160 meters. It served as a sanctuary for ancient people. In total, there are 87 grottos and caves in the tomb, 65 of which have been preserved. Thousands of petroglyphs have been found in it. Some of the drawings were created in the XXIV-XXII centuries BC.
This is the first reinforced concrete building in Ukraine, which was built during the Soviet era to demonstrate the power and strength of the country. To select the architects, a competition was announced, and the construction was carefully monitored. It was completed four years after the beginning. Today, the building is being reconstructed, and its territory hosts various offices and institutions.
This is an Orthodox shrine located in the Donetsk region. The mountain where the lavra is situated was considered holy and the first mention of it dates back to 1526. Also, 17 monks from the monastery of the Lavra were recognized as saints. Dozens of churches can be found on the Lavra’s territory. The history of the monastery began when the first monks dug out caves and cells, which are now popular attractions.
It is the birthplace of the King of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth – Jan II Sobieski. Oles Castle is one of the oldest buildings in Galicia, with the first mention of it dating back to 1390. The castle is situated on a 50-metre high hill and is considered one of the most beautiful sites in Ukraine. Surrounding the hill, there is an Italian park that boasts various sculptures, while in the castle’s premises there are art galleries and museums available for visitors to explore.
In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, located in the town of Kolomyia, there is the world’s largest Easter egg. This 13-meter high structure boasts an impressive museum inside, featuring a vast collection of Easter eggs. The building’s surface is adorned with stained glass, covering an area of 600 square meters. The museum’s collection includes a diverse assortment of eggs, including those painted by well-known individuals such as Leonid Kuchma and Viktor Yushchenko.
The reserve is located in the Kherson region. Askania Nova was founded in 1828 by a duke. Its area is 33,000 hectares. Part of the steppe zone of the reserve has never yet been touched by a plow. This is the only such territory in Europe. In the reserve, more than 500 species of plants grow and more than 3,000 species of animals live. Every year, 140,000 tourists come to see the unspoiled beauty of nature.
