About Jurmala

Jurmala is the main resort in Latvia. The city grew out of a fishing village and became popular with tourists in recent decades. Now its development is more rapid than ever. The climate of the Baltic coast is specific, so it is difficult to call Jurmala a beach resort in the usual sense. However, tourists come here not only during 2 hot months, but also during the rest of the year. The area is characterised by tranquillity, and visitors appreciate it.

The combination of coastal dunes and inland forests has made the local nature unusually colourful. Pedestrianised streets stretch from the sandy beaches, including Jomas. There are not many old buildings in the city, but the existing ones are carefully maintained. There are also modern facilities, such as the tower in Dzintari Park, one of the most unusual observation platforms in the world.

An unusual picture gallery is located in the house of artist Vitaly Yermolaev. Some time ago, the master patented a composition of colours. Using his own method, he creates paintings in the style of light painting. Under certain lighting the canvases become three-dimensional and it seems as if additional details emerge from under the top layer. This completely changes the look of the painting.
