About Suriname

Suriname is a country of mixed cultures and peoples. It is located in the picturesque part of South America, has a warm climate and rich nature. Tourist service here is not developed very well, but this does not stop those who want to see the beauty of this country.

Suriname has several reserves and a national park. All of them are different and have their main attractions. One of the reserves has become home to several thousand turtles, and in the depths of another there is a beautiful waterfall and a clear river.

In Paramaribo you can see Dutch buildings that are several centuries old. The historical centre is especially interesting. On its territory there are very interesting architectural constructions, churches, mosques. Popular are the church of St. Peter and Paul, the theatre “Talia”, the Presidential Palace. There is also a zoo in the city. Suriname has experienced a lot during its existence. This is stated by its fortresses, which in our time have become museums. The most beautiful waterfalls of Suriname are the Maria Blanche Falls and the Governor’s Falls of Fire. The country has very beautiful cliffs and mountain rainforests.

Historic Innercity of Paramaribo

Paramaribo is the capital and largest city of Suriname. Its historic centre has been shaped by five centuries. It was inscribed on the UNESCO heritage list in 2002. Almost all the buildings in the neighbourhood are wooden. Predominantly they are built in the Dutch colonial style. There are many beautiful mosques and churches in the historic centre, and there is a synagogue.

Kantongerechten Suriname

It is the residence of the President and Government of Suriname. It was built in the 17th century and took its present form in 1730. It is the most striking example of Dutch colonial architecture in Suriname. The residence is located in Independence Square, together with other government offices. The government building is a UNESCO heritage site.

Fort Nieuw Amsterdam
