About Barcelona

Barcelona is a true European “pearl” with a rich historical heritage and excellent prospects. The capital of Catalonia was founded in the 3rd century BC by a Carthaginian general, the father of the famous Hannibal. Since then, the city has passed from the Romans to the Visigoths and Moors, and then to the descendants of the Frankish kings. At the same time it constantly developed and later became the capital of the powerful Catalan-Aragonese kingdom.

Barcelona attracts millions of tourists every year. It is a city with magnificent Gothic neighbourhoods, beautiful Catholic churches, immortal works of Gaudi and unique atmosphere of the Mediterranean promenades. The colourful national festivals “La Merce”, “Parade of the Magician Kings”, “Gracia” reveal the local culture in all its glory and allow you to plunge deeper into the traditions.

Barcelona’s most famous promenade, a symbol of the city. It separates the old Gothic Quarter from the Raval neighbourhood. For tourists, the Rambla is an iconic place. Here they relax in street cafes, watch improvised performances by street performers, and buy souvenirs. Even before the big tourist influx, the boulevard was loved by locals, but now they are very rarely found in the multifaceted mass of walking guests of the city.

Gothic Quarter

0/5
The medieval quarter, the heart of the city, is home to many interesting sights. Old stone houses from the 14th to 15th centuries line the narrow streets, with traditional tapas bars on the ground floors. There are also modern shops, trendy restaurants and clubs. The bustling life boils up until the wee hours of the morning, keeping the locals awake. Only in the morning hours does the Gothic Quarter quieten down.

4.6/5
88158 reviews
One of the most interesting sights in Barcelona, designed by Antoni Gaudi. The house was commissioned by the Mila couple, who planned to rent out some of the rooms. Gaudi used the concept of a “moving mountain” in the construction, so the lines of the structure seem alive and “flowing”. The house is considered one of the spiritual symbols of the city. Nowadays, people live in one part of it, and the upper floors are given over to a museum.

The income house of Josep Baglio y Casanovas, rebuilt by A. Gaudi in the 1900s, which after reconstruction became an architectural masterpiece, an ideal example of the genius architect’s thought. Researchers of Gaudi’s work believe that the work on the building marked the beginning of a new independent stage of the architect’s work. He used the ideas he had tried out on the Casa Batlló for his further creations.

Municipal beach. It was reconstructed and beautified in the process of preparing the city for the Summer Olympic Games. Clean and beautiful sea, fine sand attract holidaymakers, but the view is somewhat spoilt by new buildings on the shore. The length of the beach is just over 400 metres, and its width is about 40 metres. The peculiarity of the beach is its section, which is favoured by nudists. The beach has a medical aid station and lifeguards on duty.

The city’s oldest and most famous beach, located on a wide sandy spit. The territory of Barcelonetta stretches all the way to the Olympic harbour. There are many clubs, restaurants, bars, volleyball courts and other active activities on the beach. The place is popular with young people, as in the high season there is not an hour of activity here, discos and dances are organised even during the day.
