FAQs about hotels in Edinburgh

A Feast for the Senses

A city of heritage, heart and of course Hogmanay, Scotland’s capital is vibrant and edgy. Whether or not you come for one of its many festivals, Edinburgh is quite simply a feast for the senses.

The wealth of Edinburgh sights ranges from Holyrood Palace to the Botanical Gardens, Princes Street to the Royal Mile. Overseeing them all is majestic Edinburgh Castle. Be there at sunset on a clear day to see the city below bathed in a warm, orange glow. Simply stunning.

Wandering the streets, the smell of fish and chips wafts by, with the unique twist of salt ‘n’ sauce – a must-try variation on this favourite dish. Follow it up with a smooth whisky and you’ll start to feel like a local.

For a taste of Scottish culture, a kilt-wearing busker often plays the bagpipes on Waverley Bridge, while traditional folk music can be heard in some Old Town pubs. Complete your stay with a rugby match at Murrayfield or a round at one of the city’s 14 golf clubs, and you’ll have the true Edinburgh experience.

Whether you are looking for hotels near Edinburgh Airport or accommodations in the city center, Booking.com has a great range to choose from.

A great city to visit, perhaps not on the hottest day of the year though! We found Coffee Angels in the Grassmarket area. It's a Community project whose Coffee shop has a "pay it forward" policy. Excellent food & coffee. It's tucked away a little but well worth finding.

    What we liked most:

What we liked most: Mount Royal Hotel provided excellent service throughout our 5-night family stay. We had three rooms - one for my wife and me, and two for our adult children - and everyone was very satisfied. The hotel kindly upgraded one of our rooms, which was a wonderful surprise. The reception staff were outstanding - Sri, Archie, Lewis, and Craig were all incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our stay, making us feel truly welcome. The hotel's central location was perfect for exploring Edinburgh. We chose to have breakfast at the many excellent nearby restaurants rather than at the hotel, and the location made this very convenient. All rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, giving our family the perfect base for our Edinburgh visit. Tips for other visitors: Ask for Sri, Archie, Lewis, or Craig at reception - they're fantastic and will take great care of you The location is ideal for walking to restaurants and attractions Perfect for families needing multiple rooms Don't hesitate to explore the local breakfast spots nearby

The old town had a special vibe and was very charming ......loved the grass market area, the outdoor pubs and restaurants w patios Getting around on public transportation and the Hop on hop off buses allowed us to see a vast area and learn a lot about the history of the city.

The city of Edinburgh is an amazing place to visit.

The city of Edinburgh is an amazing place to visit. The character of the buildings and city layout adds so much to its charm. Visiting Old Town and New Town was so enjoyable and there is so much to see and do...Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, Mary King's Close, Princes Street Garden, Arthur's Seat to name a few. The Royal Mile (Old Town) is an area one could easily spend an entire day enjoying. Public transportation is handy but walking is the best way to move around in order to get a vibe of the city and not miss an opportunity to hear bagpipers and see the variety of street performers. Edinburgh is a must visit if you haven't been!!

Edinburgh is hands down my favourite city!

Edinburgh is hands down my favourite city! It has this unique mix of old and new – centuries-old buildings, cozy pubs, and cobblestone streets right next to modern cafés, cool shops, and street performers. The city feels urban and alive, but still relaxed and super friendly – like a small big city, if that makes sense! You’ll find students, tourists, locals, young people, older people, it’s a total melting pot and somehow it just works. The food scene is amazing, for me as a vegan especially. From streetfood to luxurious, you’ll find something delicious on every corner. And just outside the city, you’re quickly in the middle of stunning nature: the Highlands, the sea, hills, lochs, castles… it's all right there. There’s always something going on, but you can also just enjoy the sound of seagulls and a sunset over the rooftops. It’s romantic, full of history, and buzzing with life – can’t wait to come back!

Edinburgh is a walking city but there is great transport over the city if walking isn’t your thing. Loved the walk to Leith along the Leith walk. Don’t miss the Union Canal walk even just a small part. Never enough time to totally explore the city always finding new places and areas l haven’t been before. Only thing that’s disappointing is the prices of accommodation far to high.

We were a group of 11, the staff were really nice and genuinley friendly. The rooms were good, the breakfast too. With a bus stop outside the front door we could use 2 busses to arrive in the city centre within 20 minutes. Nearby are many shops and a bank. All in all the service in Toby carvery was excellent for the hotel guests! Unfortunately one of our group misplaced her wallet and e-book, this was found and handed in by the cleaning staff, and was very much appreciated! Thank you Team Toby's Carvery Edinburgh West for a great stay!

We stayed in a very nice and spacious duplex room with a kitchen. We chose this location because of its proximity to the concert hall O2 Academy. It's an hour's walk from the city centre, but there are no problems with transport. But we discovered non-touristy Edinburgh, full of great and inexpensive pubs and restaurants. The hotel is pet friendly and has a private car park.
