FAQs about hotels in Helsinki

Nordic Daughter of the Baltic

Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.

Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the center of Senate Square.

From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandanavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.

Lovers of Nordic design will be thrilled by the Design Museum and the Ateneum Art Museum. Nature is in abundance on the beautiful archipelago which lies along the coast. A must-see is the Baltic fortress of Suomenlinna, where you just might forget you’re in a big city.

Whether you head to a sauna or amusement park when you disembark from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport, with over 65 hotels, apartments and hostels, Booking.com has the perfect place for your Scandinavian stay.

What Guests Said About Helsinki:

Helsinki was a great find for us.

Helsinki was a great find for us. Right from the Airport we found the locals so very helpful and always wanting to make us feel welcome. Our Summer visit suited us and there are many attractions to explore - we spent time at the Suomenlinna Fortress , this had many historic events to visit, beautiful views and lots of cafes and restaurants for the day. We enjoyed the Jazz open air concerts on the pier and a tour on the SparaKoff Beer Tram to name a few attractions. Free guided tours (GURU Walks) are a great way to find your way around the City and what activities are relevant for the time of year. We ate well at various places and prices were more affordable than we expected.

It's OK, felt very safe and secure. My favourite things were the super library (Oodi) and the Rock Church. The white Lutheran Cathedral is under tarps and scaffolding, but you can still visit inside.

It's a very pleasant and peaceful city — surprisingly relaxed for a capital. It has a chill atmosphere, and it's very walkable: most things are within a 10-minute reach. With the addition of trains and buses, you can easily cover all the main sights in a day. That said, two nights are usually enough to see the main highlights at a good pace, giving you time to enjoy the town. But if you add one more night, you can take a two-hour ferry to Estonia — a great side trip that’s definitely worth it. So overall, three nights would be ideal.

Using public transport is a bit of a problem, as I could not find any paper map with the stops on it. So how to get to a place (museum, restaurant etc) by public transport is not easy. But if you know what transport to use it is great, certainly if you have a city pass (including free access to a number of sights).

We had a three night stay in Helsinki after visiting the other Scandinavian capitals. It is interesting to reflect on the differences between the capitals. Helsinki is definitely number one for architecture with hundreds of Art Nouveau buildings, don't miss the Central Station. The other stand out feature were the Finnish eating options in the Old Market Hall and the surrounding harbourside.

Helsinki is a great city to visit - unfortunately we only had a few days. We saw plenty of the city as its easy to walk around and even went on a day trip to Porvoo. We caught the boat there and bus back - was definitely worth the trip.

The hotel is walking distance from pretty much anything in the city center. There are restaurants and pubs/bars very close, some of them loud during the weekend, but it didn't bother us inside, the rooms are very quiet. The decor of the room is warm en welcoming, the bathroom was spotless, the beds were supercomfy. We felt right at home and would stay here again!

The breakfast price is reasonable at the hotel. The location is good because we could easily access any important facilities from the location (Embassies, City Center, Airport..). I have stayed for a week, they did try to arrange the booking within a room so that we could have the most space as we could.
