A Shakespearean Fairytale
A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalized in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.
Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.
Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheater which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theater whose remains are partly beneath a house.
The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which have cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laid back and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.
Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.

Verona is a very old city with plenty of ruins and old world architectural delights. You can walk the city in a few hours and then sit and enjoy being there for the rest of your time. Loved Verona. Such an interesting city with plenty to see visually and lots of interesting history, culture and art. A relaxed place to walk about and very good restaurants. I had a fantastic 4-day stay in Verona and absolutely loved the city! The Verona Card was extremely useful and made visiting the historic sites much easier. We also took a sightseeing bus tour, which was especially helpful when the temperatures rose and walking became less enjoyable. The Euromotel is around 15-20 minutes by bus till the city centre and has it's own parking. Close to the hotel is a supermarket and bus stop. The bus tickets you can buy at reception as well.
