Catania city center is nice but except for that I did not feel very good there, the city is big and does not really have that nice Italian vibe I love, but that is from my point of view. however Catania is perfect spot to plan your trips from: Taormina, Valley of Temples, Etna tours are all perfectly reachable from here.

Just returned from a trip to Catania and it was absolutely wonderful. The city is full of vibrant energy, stunning Baroque architecture, and the dramatic backdrop of Mount Etna makes every view feel cinematic. The local markets are alive with color and flavor—especially the famous fish market—and the food is unforgettable (don’t miss the arancini and pasta alla Norma!). The people are warm and welcoming, and there’s a great mix of history, seaside charm, and modern Sicilian life. A perfect blend of culture, food, and scenery. Highly recommend visiting!

Catania itself was beautiful lots of lovely trips to do & food amazing our hotel was NOT in A good area so would not go back to the NH hotel was definitely not 4 star rooms were like prison blocks no room to swing a cat. Food not good . Staff excellent. Had to move after 2 nights so unfortunately lost a lot of money through booking .com. Who said it was 4 star rooms.
Pool closed at 5pm sunbeds were a joke pool didn’t open again until after 10 am. It spoiled our trip unfortunately.

We did not like the city at all.
We did not like the city at all.
It was very untidy in most places - bordering on dirty.
The traffic is a nightmare particularly the scooters and mopeds.
There does not appear to be any adherence to traffic lights or speed limits nor the proper use of traffic la es.

Very dirty city and very noisy. Lots of beggars and homeless continually asking for money even at restaurant tables. No water at all in the whole of Catania for 24 hours - no prior warning! Unbelievable considering they want to spend millions on a bridge!!!!

Catania is a very dirty city, filled with graffiti and garbage with rail lines running along the shore, so it is not an ideal holiday spot at all, although Catanians love it and are very loyal to their city. If you are Ianding at CTA airport for a short stay, its the most convenient for arranging tours to Siracusa, Agrigento or Etna. If you are staying any length of time, I would choose an alternate city.

A lovely hotel at the best location in the city. The concept of the hotel of rooms themed based on movies made in Sicily add an extra angle to the stay. The movie of your room theme is available to watch, and is the perfect way to relax after a long walk in the city. The facilities are incredible and the Spa is available for private use with a fantastic massage. The staff go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Don't miss out on this treat of a hotel during your stay in Catania - it's truly unique.
Although a little off the beaten track (which had its advantages) the hotel was well situated for exploring the city. Local restaurants, a lovely gelato bar and the fascinating market were all close by.
The staff were welcoming from start to finish, the food and drink great and breakfasts first class with a wide selection of fresh Sicilian delights which varied every day.
If we came back to Catania (this was our first ever visit to this part of Italy) this is where we would stay...
Perfect for stay close to airport. 4 minute walk and there's a special walkway with big signs leading to airport. Very easy walk with luggage. We'll lit at night as well and there's security cars around so very safe. Room was very nicely done and emCulately clean. Coffee maker, kettle, hairdryer, mini fridge, closet, snacks $. We had the room with large balcony with view of Mount Etna.
Best hotel for overnight near airport. So convenient and definitely a nice boutique feel.
The San Max Hotel was a perfect place to stay for our last night in Sicily before flying home. Staff were great in getting us a taxi booked for early in the morning and letting us know about the hotel. The room was fine and even a lot bigger than we needed. The requested second bed was set-up and waiting. It is not high luxury but it was clean and in a very central location.
