Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything from fascinating history and great architecture to a friendly atmosphere!
Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down Communist rule in Poland, initiating the end of the Cold War era.
Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the city's near-complete destruction during World War II. You can admire the colorful townhouses of the Old Town by boat on the Motlawa River or by strolling down the popular Long Street and Long Market.
While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!
Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com has a variety of accommodations near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city center.
Breathtaking! I walked around looking for fish/seafood restaurants and I was spoiled for choice, I found one nearby called Canis I eventually went with and it was the best food I've ever had and very good value for money.

Loved the friendliness of the locals with many going out of their way to help.
Great variety of entertainment in the square and many attractions within walking distance.
The WW2 Museum is a must see visit. The Black Bird Galleon was an enjoyable and relaxing way to view a very busy port.

We loved our little break it is a beautiful city.
We loved our little break it is a beautiful city. The people were very friendly and it wasn’t expensive to eat & drink.
We went to the world war museum, it was amazing. The food hall is amazing and very reasonably priced, the food was lovely.
We did a city tour on a boat, which was wonderful.
We did a sightseeing tour with food & drinks with Bart, this was wonderful. We met lovely people from all over the world.
We went to the viewing platform at St Mary’s church, there are 408 steps, some are very narrow. I am claustrophobic, so l found the climb difficult, but the view is wonderful.

Gdansk is a must in poland especially if you’re interested in history of all kind. A historic cruise from the Gdansk ship yard is highly recommended. There is a guided tour of the shipyard itself, where birth of the movement called solidarity enabled the death of communism in Europe, highly underrated the significance. WW2 museum is another should. Then of course walk about the length and breadth of the old town is unmissable. Apart from that there are castles, other museums and attractions around Gdansk worth the time. Transport is cheap and very frequent. Especially the old town offers various cuisines. Gdansk is also well served by trains from all over the country with connections beyond like Germany.

Beautiful city full of amazing old architecture with tasteful modern buildings blending in. Solidarity Museum was incredible and should be your number one destination. WW2 museum was good too. Train trip to Sopot contrasted a lovely, traditional seaside resort with the city. Amazing selection of bars and restaurants to suite all tastes. Plenty accessible , cheap public transport with trams, trains and buses. Quaint cobbled streets and a river buzzing with boats, ships and museums.

Very local to food hall and museums, shops close by and the marina all in at the most ten minutes or less walking distance. great base to go out and pop back for little break and then out again. loved the harbor and all the different boats and trips. Prices for eating and drinking a bit dearer, but lovely to sit and people watch. Solidarity museum was great and very informative. Amber museum good, it was free on the Tuesday. Check out days when some of the museums are free, but prices are very reasonable.

The hotel was in a perfect location for nearly everything. Right by the river and not far from the centre of the old town. Beautiful rooms. Quite quirky decor, but beautifully done and so clean. Staff were wonderful and breakfast ( continental with a twist) was the best breakfast we think we’ve ever had. ( not a full English if that’s what you like) . Comfy beds and just all round fabulous hotel.
This is incredibly stylish accommodation with modern facilities in a repurposed mental hospital. Quiet. Probably the best hotel breakfast of our four weeks in Poland and Germany. The only one of the hotels we stayed in which had self service laundry and ironing facilities; big plus.
This place is the warmest, most comforting hostel you’ll find on the North end of Poland. Honestly, it’s probably the best hostel in Poland period. The staff are excellent, the facilities are top notch and it’s incredibly cheap!
Good luck Basia in Brazil :))
I stayed here for the second time, everything was nice incl. a tasteful breakfast. The hotel is located in city centre, next to a channel and the Marine museum. The staff is friendly, the place is warm and very clean with a spacious kitchen on 1st floor.
Location is perfect, right next to old town and a 10 minute walk to the train station. Hotel is very modern and clean. Family room was very spacious. Breakfast was very nice, would definitely return to this hotel again.
