The rooms are in the historical palace, so the ceiling height is enormous. The room was clean and comfortable, and with open windows the square below was making nice ambient noise.

FAQs about hotels in Genoa

Ship Shape and Fancy Free

Right on the Ligurian coast, Genoa features Europe’s largest historic quarter and Italy’s largest seaport. As the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.

By the old port (Porto Antico), there are several bars and restaurants serving the local specialty, pesto. Other Genoese favorites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade, Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighborhood, where colorful boats bob up and down.

The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.

South is the historic quarter with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.

As you approach Genova Airport, look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the "Superb City." Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodations, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

We loved the walkability of the city and the outdoor restaurants. We also loved how dog-friendly the city is and would love to return with our small dog. The weather was wonderful and we enjoyed the hop on hop off bus. The people were very friendly as well.

Genova was a very diverse city, with lots to do and see.

Genova was a very diverse city, with lots to do and see. It had a bit of everything, scenery , history, beautiful architecture, beaches, shops, good restaurants. The aquarium was amazing, as was the harbour, which was very vibrant , and great for a stroll round. It is quite a hilly city, with lots of steps at times, however this just added to the uniqueness of the place.

We had quite a bit of baggage wasn’t far to walk but awkward with bags etc , only a short walk from the private car park just down road but a bag drop off area would be good and on first night there we struggled with entrance door code so we were lucky that a worker was leaving and allowed us in or I think we may have bn locked out x bigger sign at car park entrance has well has we sailed past it first time round and with it being one way we had to go round again and a arrow with what direction the hotel was would of helped has I was having to use google maps to locate what direction hotel was in on leaving car park . Pen and paper in room would be good to write code down has my phone went dead and luckily I’d forward email to hubby with door codes etc x apart from that pleasant stay

Genoa is a city that can tire you out with its steep uphill...

Genoa is a city that can tire you out with its steep uphill streets and stairways, and even unsettle you a little with its dark alleys — especially near the port. But at the same time, it completely enchants you with its faded grandeur, the traces of which are everywhere you look. And above all, it’s the people who define the city — locals long weary of tourists, yet always polite and quick to return a smile. Three days were enough for us to get a good sense of Genoa. I strongly recommend venturing outside the city — it’s quieter, greener, and most importantly, there’s access to the sea.

Excellent hotel with very professional and friendly staff, makes you feel at home. We received a free upgrade to a beautiful last floor room with balcony and sea view. The room is not large but has really everything you need at top quality level, including coffee machine, super comfortable bed and pillows, plenty of amenities, soundproof walls, complimentary bottles of water. Finally, cherry on the cake, we were offered the beers we took from the minbar.
