FAQs about hotels in Washington, D.C.

A World Icon

Featuring tons of national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guesthouse booked through Booking.com.

What Guests Said About Washington, D.C.:

We had a wonderful time in Washington!

We had a wonderful time in Washington! We visited in mid-June, and while the weather was quite hot, staying hydrated kept us going. We explored iconic sites like the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall—there was a lot of walking involved, but it was worth it. We used the unlimited transportation card for 3 days, which made getting around easier, and Uber was always a reliable option. That said, the bus service was quite slow, possibly due to preparations for the 250th Army anniversary. Also, some subway stations are a bit far from major attractions, so be prepared for some walking. This wasn’t my first time in Washington, and it definitely won’t be the last. I love the city—it’s clean, safe, and the people are genuinely friendly. The wide, well-maintained streets make it a joy to explore!

It's our nation's capital and has so many wonderful places, activities and landmarks to enjoy...there is something for everyone and one trip would never provide enough time to see it all. Restaurants are abundant and there is no shortage of quality choices; I suggest being adventurous and trying something new. My only pre-trip recommendation would be to try to find lodging accommodations located in close proximity of a Metro station stop, since that is the most efficient and dependable form of transportation at a great price.

So much to do during a stay in Washington.

So much to do during a stay in Washington. We were only there for 2.5 days but could easily have filled at least 7. The range of Smithsonian Museums is awesome and they are all free to get in. We spent over 3 hours just on one floor of the American History Museum! Definitely want to return to complete, along with the others too. A visit to Arlington is a must! Take the time to wait and witness the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the unknown Solider and wait for the changing of the wreath too. An emotional but awesome experience. When it's hot, it's hot! Take appropriate clothes for the predicted weather and drink plenty of water. Despite the heat we were still able to walk lots (as we had planned to). Washington is fairly small so it's easy to get around on foot, by the Metro, on the buses or by Uber.

Loved all the museums I visited and Union Station. Was able to get around easily using the Metro. Unfortunately we were disappointed by almost every restaurant we ate at. Definitely don't go to DC for the food.

A beautiful city with a European feel.

A beautiful city with a European feel. Great for bikes and walking, Very green, with creeks running around it. Free museums including the zoo - It felt safe - although lots of police presence around White House and Capital Hill. Historic Georgetown with its cobbled streets and rabbits! was a surprise, lots of places to go to escape the heat. My favourite US City by far

My wife and I had a great time visiting DC but as always, wish we could have stayed longer. We learned to utilize the ebikes and escooters and it really helped with utilizing the amount of time we had to get to locations. The one thing that would be better is increased numbers of ebikes and escooters and better maintenance of them. We encountered difficulty in finding them and occasions where we rented out scooters with flat tires and mechanical problems. Another negative aspect of our trip was the constant odor of people smoking marijuana. We smelled the stinky weed at a large number of locations we visited and it was unpleasant and reflected poorly on our nation's capital.

Such a comfortable place in a great location. My colleague and I stayed here for a conference in Walter E. Washington Center, and it was super convenient. There is a Giant grocery store less than 10 minute walk away, too. We've stayed at a different place before, but this one is much better and also cheaper! We will very gladly come back!

Nice hotel and I found it way cheaper than the other establishments in the area. Staff always courteous and keen to help. The only issue I had was that the walls were a bit too thin so every time a neighbour would slam their door I would hear it! But overall it was a great stay and would book with them again.
