## About Makiivka

Tucked into Ukraine’s Donetsk region, Makiivka offers a compelling glimpse into the country’s industrial heartland and its enduring spirit. The city’s legacy as a coal-mining hub gives visitors a sense of the region’s working-class heritage, best experienced through its quiet avenues, Soviet-era architecture, and communal parks that remain lively with locals. Steeped in local culture, you’ll find Orthodox churches, bustling markets, and small museums that tell stories of a city that grew with steel and industry. Nearby, easy excursions to Donetsk and the surrounding countryside reveal river trails, leafy neighborhoods, and the chance to sample authentic Ukrainian hospitality, cuisine, and daily life.
