Breakfast was filled with different products for everyone to choose from (lactose intolerant, vegan, gluten free). Amazingly quiet rooms and clean rooms. Good gym and sauna. And also, you can literally take ice from the ice maker machines in the hallway. Ritual products complimented the place and was very nieche all together.

The hotel is in the heart of the city, and the restaurant is popular for lunch and dinner. The breakfast features many items from small farms or dishes special to Finland. There was no smoked fish (lox) but several kinds of meats and cold cuts (from my memory), yogurts berries, breads, etc etc etc. Of course the staff spoke excellent English. they had Helsinki newspapers available, but not Huvudstadsblated, which is what I read when there.

FAQs about hotels in Helsinki

Nordic Daughter of the Baltic

Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.

Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the center of Senate Square.

From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandanavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.

Lovers of Nordic design will be thrilled by the Design Museum and the Ateneum Art Museum. Nature is in abundance on the beautiful archipelago which lies along the coast. A must-see is the Baltic fortress of Suomenlinna, where you just might forget you’re in a big city.

Whether you head to a sauna or amusement park when you disembark from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport, with over 65 hotels, apartments and hostels, Booking.com has the perfect place for your Scandinavian stay.

We had a three night stay in Helsinki after visiting the other Scandinavian capitals. It is interesting to reflect on the differences between the capitals. Helsinki is definitely number one for architecture with hundreds of Art Nouveau buildings, don't miss the Central Station. The other stand out feature were the Finnish eating options in the Old Market Hall and the surrounding harbourside.

Helsinki is a great city to visit - unfortunately we only had a few days. We saw plenty of the city as its easy to walk around and even went on a day trip to Porvoo. We caught the boat there and bus back - was definitely worth the trip.

I have been to Helsinki a number of times. It is one of my favourite cities. It is an easy place to walk around. Try to go in summer, and get out on to the water. Avoid using cabs from the airport or the port. They are very expensive - twice the price of Uber.

Excellent trolley service around the city (get a multi-ride pass online). We attended a musical event at the "church in the rock" (Temppeliaukio Church) - what a gorgeous venue!. We took a boat to Suomenlinna Fortress (islands) and spent several hours wandering. We did the day-trip to Tallin (MUST DO!!)

I really valued my extra days in Helsinki.

I really valued my extra days in Helsinki. Though it’s not a particularly old city, unlike other Scandinavian and European cities that I’ve visited, it had a fair bit to offer. The transportation network is excellent, and very easy to navigate. Almost all signage and information is also posted in English. Asking help is usually no problem, because almost everyone speaks some English. I was able to take the train into the city from the airport and the cost was less than 5 Euros. Trams, buses and trains operate on a zone system. You just need to know what zones you need to travel within and purchase a ticket. I had purchased a 2 day pass at a kiosk with my credit card – very simple. I should say that making purchases in Helsinki is primarily done electronically. Very few places other than those catering to tourists accept cash.

Don't be misled by the looks of the building! This is a most modern hostel, with a great attitude to ecology and conscious consumption. It's not only the cheapest place in the Helsinki city center, but also one of the best. A beautiful neighbourhood, very close to the Viking ferry terminal and walking distance to the Market square.
