With more canals than Amsterdam and Venice combined and over 2,300 bridges, Hamburg is an independent city-state with Europe’s second-busiest port and one of Germany's most popular soccer teams, Hamburg SV.
No trip to Hamburg is complete without a visit to the city’s old warehouse district, Speicherstadt, and the popular harbor promenade, the Landungsbrücken. The best and most popular way to explore the city is by boat or ferry so you can truly admire the stunning architecture and the city’s waterways.
The impressive City Hall and the popular St. Michaelis church will awe any visitor, and music fans should look for the Indra and the Star Club, where the Beatles played between 1960 and 1962. For a different look at Hamburg, moonlit strolls on the Reeperbahn will bring visitors through the largest red light district in Europe. Hamburg is famous for its local dishes, Birnen, Bohnen and Speck, Aalsuppe and open-faced sandwiches with cold-smoked or pickled fish. The laid-back cafés of Schanze neighborhood and barbecues on a beach along the Elbe River are great ways to relax after a day of sightseeing.

The Rathous was beautiful, The town had good restaurants overlooking canals and the lakes. Most reasonably priced. The trains and undergrounds very frequent and easy to use. Only downside was not often other languages in menus and tourist attractions which made it a bit less interesting to visitors.
Also would be nice if the locals smiled more!

Hamburg is quite a lovely city to visit.
Hamburg is quite a lovely city to visit. I recommend strolling around the gardens Planten un Blomen or Alster Park, walking around Speicherstadt with close views of the Elbphilarmonie. Jungfernstieg is the center where you will find plenty of restaurants, shops and lake views, I particularly recommend sitting down at the Alster Arcade, as it is a very peaceful spot that reminds of Venice canals. Take one of the ferry boats that serve as public transport, they are free if you have a day ticket for public transport, or you can just buy a ticket separately, it is the same as taking the s-Bahn, but you get a lovely river ride through Hamburg. For art lovers, visit Kunsthalle, they have the famous painting of Caspar David Friedrich, “Wanderer above the Sea of Fog” (unfortunately at the moment it is not in the museum, but it will be back mid of june).

We did not stay for long.
We did not stay for long. There was a stabbing incident the day before and were a little nervous about exploring the city. The taxi fare to the train station was way too expensive. The HauptBahnhof was loud, too busy, the queues in the toilet too long, the ATM out of order, and too many homeless people, as well as people shouting and running - obviously had psychological issues. We were going to take a bus tour but were too tired. Maybe another time. Hamburg is not how I remembered it.

Hamburg is London without the headache.
Hamburg is London without the headache. One really experiences Hanseatic and German culture. Although natives might describe it as hectic, it is not. It is very green with so many canals and there is always something going on. A great city break destination.

I liked Hamburg a lot.
I liked Hamburg a lot. OK, maybe not the most beautiful city in the world but there are more than enough attractions to see and the museums were all excellent. Highly recommend a trip around the harbour.

My main goal was to visit the Elbphilharmonie.
My main goal was to visit the Elbphilharmonie. Apart from fascinating concerts, there are a lot of shops next to the town hall. You may want to visit different streets and regions of the city for better experiences.
I would suggest planning the visit more if staying more than 3-4 days, as you may want to go to Luneburg for old city experiences and great views. Stade has the best music shop I've ever seen if you are interested, and there is a great old city with local restaurants and shops.
The public transportation system is great, and with the same ticket, you may take a boat as public transport down the river. There is a great fish market. If you like to you can visit the Red Street District.

The hotel is in need of renovation and is looking quite tired. The rooms are very small, especially for 3 people. We were put in the hotel extension building behind the main hotel so didn’t get the view we were anticipating. The walk into town centre is around 25 minutes so is definitely not the most convenient location if you’re looking to be in the heart of Hamburg.
Easy to get train from airport,€3.50.we arrived late in evening easy walk to hotel from train station used google maps 10min walk if that.
Ibis is a great location to city centre, lots of bars restaurants near by I didn’t have breakfast at Ibis.friendly staff and clean WiFi in room 24hrs free then pay a small fee after.
The room was small, but clean & comfortable. There was no kettle/tea /coffee facilities. But may that's usual for Germany?
Perfect location for us, next door to the theatre we were visiting. Opposite the train station and a short walk into the city centre.
(Photo below is the view from our room)
Nothing particular in general. I am a regular customer at Leonardo, but this one is not as good as the other Leonardo hotels in Germany, or even the other one in Hamburg Nord. It's maybe okay as a stop in transit, as you can relax in sauna.
location is quite centre of Hamburg, breakfast is very good and standard of scandic hotel chain . rooms are clean and comfortable , size is just perfect. Just in front of U-Bahn exit, very convenient for go anywhere or Hauptbahnhof.
