Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.
Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the center of Senate Square.
From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandanavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.

Very interesting city with lots of interesting architecture.
Very interesting city with lots of interesting architecture. Transport system excellent with metro, buses and trams. Walk down the Esplanade with lots of designer shops, beautiful gardens down the centre and a drink in belle époque café/restaurant Kapelli. 20 minute ferry trip to Suomenlinna island well worth it. Suomenlinna is a very interesting island to visit, with a variety of eating options. Seurasaari open air museum and Temppeliaukio Church with its copper ceiling are both worth a visit.

The HSL App is great for public transport and so easy to use. The Walking Tour was great as was the Boat Tour of the islands. Lots of nice places to eat and not as expensive as we had thought. Lots of sights to see.

We were surprised by how much we enjoyed Helsinki.
We were surprised by how much we enjoyed Helsinki. We only had 1.5 days there before we caught our flight back to the US. And we ran out of time before we got to do everything we ended up wanting to do. I think it's worth a solid 2-3 days.

There are so many interesting things to see and do in Helsinki, many are wishing walking distance if you like walking. The people when you engage with them are very friendly and whilst Finnish is their language I did not meet anyone who could not converse at some level in English.

Very pleasant staff who also upgraded me to a better room free of charge. The room is really spacious, with everything you need, the design is sleek and modern, but with respect to the historical building it's located in. Room was also very warm and had a nice homely feel. Breakfast didn't have a lot of options, and no hot dishes, but everything was tasty. The hotel is located a bit far from the city center, but a very convenient tram runs just in front of the hotel an it takes 15-20 mins to get to the most important sites.
The breakfast price is reasonable at the hotel. The location is good because we could easily access any important facilities from the location (Embassies, City Center, Airport..). I have stayed for a week, they did try to arrange the booking within a room so that we could have the most space as we could.
Everything was good: the room is spacious enough and the breakfast variety is rich. Hotel is located almost in the city center, it's a good point to explore the surrounding area by foot or take public transportation to anywhere else you need.
It is super option for travelers that want to go from FInland to Estonia, it is as cheap as normal hotel, plus there is option to travel by sea. Cabine was ok, nothing special, but in this price comfy bed and shower is enough.
Great location in the city center, next to the train central station.
Friendly staff.
Good but not exceptional breakfast (I have seen better in cheaper hotels).
Comfortable bed.
